Using HoTP

What is House of The People?
A platform for voting on the bills going through the UK Parliament, and for measuring the gap between how the public votes and how MPs actually vote. It is non-partisan. We do not campaign for any outcome, we measure the distance between the two.
How do I vote on a bill?
Open Vote, choose any bill, and pick support or oppose. Every bill carries a plain-English summary of what it actually does, so you are not reading legalese to form a view. You can change your vote at any time, and your voting history lives underMy votes in your account menu.
Something looks wrong. A vote, an MP, a bill.
Please tell us. Parliament publishes a lot of data and some of it arrives late or inconsistent. Email charlie@houseofthepeople.com with the bill or member and what looks off, and we will check it against the source.

Your account

Why do you need my postcode?
Only to work out which constituency, council and ward you are in, so we can show you your MP, your councillors and how your area voted. Your constituency is shown publicly on your profile. Your postcode never is. See the Privacy Policy for detail.
Is my voting record public?
Not by default. Your individual votes are private unless you turn on public voting history in Settings. Aggregate figures, such as how a whole constituency voted, never identify individual people.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings and choose Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, your votes, your posts and your comments. It cannot be undone. You can export your data first from the same screen.
What does Pro include, and how do I cancel?
Pro unlocks the detail underneath a bill: the MP alignment ranking, the Analyse tools on every bill (amendments, debates, scrutiny and statutory instruments), and the Analyst pages for consultations, amendments, statutory instruments and treaties. Pro members can also create polls and send ideas straight to the team. Voting, bills, divisions, petitions, committees and everything else stay free.

If you subscribed in the iPhone app, manage or cancel it in the Settings app under your Apple Account, then Subscriptions. If you subscribed in the Android app, manage or cancel it in the Google Play app under Payments and subscriptions. If you subscribed on the website, manage it from Settings here.

Safety and data

How do I report a comment or block someone?
Every comment, post and poll has a report option on it. Reported content goes to us for review and is removed if it breaks the Terms of Service. You can also block another user from their profile, which hides their content from you and stops them replying to you.
Where does your data come from?
Bills, divisions, members and debates come from the official UK Parliament APIs under the Open Parliament Licence. Councillors and elections come from Democracy Club. Postcodes are resolved to constituencies by MySociety MapIt. Bill summaries are generated from the official Explanatory Notes, the Bill text, or the first reading debate in Hansard, and each summary says which source it used.

Still stuck? A person will reply.
